The Real Story Behind the Name: Fifty Bucks for Betty
People always ask where the name Fifty Bucks for Betty came from. It sounds like it could be the title of a lost classic rock anthem or a gritty crime flick—but the truth is, it started with a birthday and a bit of Baltimore slang.
Our drummer was out shopping for his wife’s birthday—she’s a born-and-raised Highlandtown girl, the kind of woman who knows how to rock red lipstick and a comeback line at the same time. In that part of Baltimore, women like that are known as Bettys—it’s old-school slang for a stylish, confident woman who can hold her own.
He casually told the band, “I gotta grab fifty bucks for the Betty.”
Someone laughed. Someone else said, “That’s a hell of a band name.”
And just like that, it stuck.
We’ve been Fifty Bucks for Betty ever since—playing every show like we’re earning that fifty all over again, with a wink, a groove, and a whole lot of classic rock energy.
